Chaperone policy

All patients are entitled to request a chaperone for any consultation, examination, or procedure. A chaperone is routinely offered for intimate examinations to protect and reassure both you and our clinicians.

What is a chaperone?

A chaperone is a trained member of our staff who is present during an examination or procedure to support the patient and clinician, helping to ensure dignity, privacy, and respect are maintained.

Key points

  • A chaperone will be offered when booking or at the start of your appointment where appropriate
  • You may also bring a family member or friend if you wish
  • If you choose not to have a chaperone, this will be recorded in your clinical notes

Our commitment

  • All staff acting as chaperones receive appropriate training
  • All staff undergo enhanced DBS checks
  • The offer and use of a chaperone is recorded in your clinical record

You may request a chaperone at any time during your appointment. Your comfort and dignity are important to us.

This policy follows guidance from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and NHS England.
